Boys in grades 3-8 are invited to come.
We are going to meet 6:30-8:00pm in the Waverly Youth Center on the same nights as the GEMS girls club meets at church.
What will a typical night look like?
- Opening Exercises include reciting
- Cadet Motto “Living for Jesus”
- Cadet Verse John 14:15 “If you love me you will keep my commandments.”
- Cadet Code “A Cadet is reverent, obedient, compassionate, consecrated, trustworthy, pure, grateful, loyal, industrious, and cheerful.”
- Cadet Pledge “Thankful to God for His gifts to me, I pledge myself to be ready to serve God, my parents, my country, my church, my neighbor, and my Corps.”
- Cadet Hymn “Living for Jesus” first verse and chorus
Living for Jesus a life that is true,
Striving to please Him in all that I do;
Yielding allegiance, glad-hearted and free,
This is the pathway of blessing for me.
O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement, Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master, My heart shall be Thy throne;
My life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ for Thee alone. - Counselor Mission Statement “Helping boys to grow more Christlike in all areas of life.”
- A 15-20-minute Bible lesson
- Badgework – the Cadet program has over 130 merit badges offered, so we can find something the boys are interested in
- Crafts –for example: wood working and small power hand tools
- Skills – primarily outdoors for example: camping, safe ax and knife handling, knots and lashing, fire building and camp cooking, basic first aid, map reading
- Games
We hope to have three special events over the course of the year. Possibilities include taking the boys sledding, snow caving, and an overnight campout in the spring.
At the end of the year we will have an awards night with awards and prizes for things like the cadet with the best attendance, most badges completed, best attitude etc.
Through the course of the year we will have a prize for each boy who memorizes the Cadet landmarks, to presented to them the week they successfully recite them to one of the counselors by themselves.
The men serving as counselors are Dustin Fransen, Ryan Johnson, Zach Rutgers and Steve Van Iwaarden with Pastor George Den Oudsten serving as the head counselor.
